Supporters Compete For Convention Delegates

Photo is: ©Chris Fitzgerald/CandidatePhotos.com
This morning, the streets leading into Rundlett Middle School were turned into a battleground for the supporters of Democratic presidential candidates. The supporters spend their time competing for the attention of delegates arriving at the midterm convention of the New Hampshire Democratic Party. Whenever one group of supporters began chanting for their candidate, the others chimed in with their own chants, attempting to drown the others out.
Inside the school, four of the candidates--Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, Dennis Kucinich, and Bill Richardson--delivered fifteen minute speeches during the morning session. The candidates spend most of their time discussing their views on the war in Iraq.
Later, the other candidates in the presidential race were represented by stand in speakers that included Michelle Obama representing her husband, Governor Martin O'Malley for Hillary Clinton, and Congressman David Bonior for John Edwards.

Clinton: “The state of New Hampshire has a lot to be proud of today. Governor John Lynch and the Granite State legislature have shown commendable leadership in their efforts to end discrimination against gays and lesbians,” said Senator Clinton. “I applaud New Hampshire for moving forward and continuing to lead the country in protecting the rights and freedoms of all its citizens.”

Dodd: "I applaud Governor Lynch and the New Hampshire Legislature for passing the Civil Unions legislation, ensuring that all couples enjoy the same rights and freedoms regardless of their sexual orientation," said Dodd. "With two young daughters of my own, I want to ensure that they grow up in a world that is free of discrimination. That is why I supported Civil Unions in my home state of Connecticut and it is why I am proud to see John Lynch and the State Legislature doing the right thing here in New Hampshire."

Edwards: "Governor Lynch and the state of New Hampshire have shown true leadership in the ongoing battle against discrimination that so many Americans face every day in this country. By recognizing that committed same-sex couples should have the same rights and responsibilities as other citizens, New Hampshire has taken an important step in the name of two of the most fundamental American ideals -- fairness and equal rights."

Today in Manchester, Hillary Clinton delivered a speech on globalization. Here is a press release about her speech:

Hillary Clinton laid out her progressive vision for strengthening the middle class in the face of rising income inequality and globalization today. In a speech at the Manchester School of Technology in New Hampshire , she called for a return to shared prosperity and tax fairness, while expanding access to quality education and healthcare for all Americans.

“I believe that one of the most crucial jobs of the next President is to define a new vision of economic fairness and prosperity for the 21st century – a vision for how we ensure greater opportunity for our next generation,” Clinton said. “I consider myself a thoroughly optimistic and modern progressive. I believe we can grow our economy in the face of global competition – and in a way that benefits all Americans. I believe we can curb the excesses of the marketplace – and provide more opportunities for more Americans to succeed.”

I'm encouraging other conservatives to join me and run for local, state and national office under the We The People banner.

Obama Unveils Mental Health Plan For Veterans

During his most recent to the Granite State, Barack Obama's campaign released the following statement:

At a town hall forum today in Conway, New Hampshire, Senator Barack Obama unveiled a proposal to meet the lifetime mental health needs of America's veterans. With cases of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) sharply on the rise, Obama outlined key improvements to mental health care to be implemented at each stage of military service.

"I believe strongly that there is a sacred trust between this country and those who serve it," Senator Obama said. "That trust begins the moment a service member signs on and lasts the duration of his or her life. We're falling far short in addressing the mental health care needs of these heroes, and that's inexcusable. I'm proposing a comprehensive approach to meeting the lifetime commitment we make to our service members."

To address this growing mental health crisis, Senator Obama proposed critical enhancements at every stage of military service: recruitment, deployment, and reentry into civilian life.
