Obama Scolds Staff

Speaking by phone, to the IAFF convention, Barack Obama blamed his staff for not building into his travel schedule a personal appearance. He told the group that "I have to tell you, I wish I was there. My staff had already scheduled some things and they couldn't wiggle out if it. They heard from me a little bit because I wasn't happy I couldn't be there personally."

Romney Awarded Plaque By Pro-Life Group

Photo is: ©Chris Fitzgerald/CandidatePhotos.com
Mitt Romney, accompanied by his wife Ann Romney, was presented a pro life award plaque by the Massachusetts Citizens For Life--Pioneer Valley Chapter, at a dinner event at the Chez Joseph restaurant in Agawam, Massachsetts. Specifically, the organization was awarding him for his pro life stances taken during his term as governor ofMassachusetts. Romney, during his keynote speech, stated that his conversion to a prolife outlook happened while he was researching the topic of stem cell policy. Romney said that "It is instructive to see the double standard at work here. When a pro-life figure changes to pro-choice, it hardly gets a mention. But when someone becomes pro-life, the pundits go into high dudgeon."

Outside the restaurant, pro choice activists from the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts, and a single pro lifeactivist, demonstrated against Romney's change in attitude, which they described as a 'flip flop,' an accusation that his motivation for changing his position was based on political opportunism.

Thompson: Let Iraqis Vote on U.S. Presence

Photo is: ©Chris Fitzgerald/CandidatePhotos.com

This morning, former HHS Secretary and Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson spoke at the Politics & Eggs breakfast at the Bedford Village Inn. Thompson started his speech by describing that as a boy he used to work on a farm where he often handled eggs. As a result of that, he said that he does not like eggs and never eats them. The remark was received with much laughter.

His speech included his proposal that the United States should ask Iraq's representative body to hold a vote on whether or not they want the military from the USA to stay in their country or to go, and that the USA should adhere to that decision. After his speech, he signed wooden eggs--a tradition with politicians who speak at the breakfast.

This appearance was his only one in NH. An earlier scheduled event--a breakfast visit to the Chez Vachon Restaurant in Manchester--did not happen because his flight had arrived late at night and he had slept in later than anticipated.

Richardson Using Grassroots

Beth LaMontagne has a story on Bill Richardson "using grassroots to get out his message." Here it is:

"New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is the first to admit he's not a rock star candidate. Despite his impressive resume that includes past tenures as a U.S. Representative, ambassador and the U.S. Secretary of Energy, Richardson is considered a second-tier candidate. His presidential campaign, he told New Hampshire voters on Monday, is not about the big events. It's about letting voters know he has the diplomatic and leadership experience to bring people together and get things done."

From The Hotline:

"John McCain's national political director, Michael P. Dennehy, will step away from day-to-day duties at the campaign, telling associates today that his family obligations conflicted with his arduous, 24/7 political job in Washington, D.C." Dennehy e-mailed McCain staffers and said "I have always made my family the number one priority in my life. We will move back to New Hampshire where my son, Liam, can be reunited with the education community that he knows, thrives in, and has the best opportunity to succeed."

Romney Takes The Lead, Clinton Leads Dems

A new WBZ-TV poll shows that Mitt Romney and Hillary Clinton has taken the lead in the Granite State. In response to the poll, Romney consultant Rich Killion said “It’s another example of how the Governor and his message of bringing real change to Washington is resonating with Granite Staters. One that captures and builds on the excitement and interest the Governor continually generates as he connects with voters at the retail level.” Here are the poll results:

The GOP:

Romney: 32%
Giuliani: 23%
