Richardson Promises To Protect Naval Shipyard

During a visit to the Portsmouth Navel Shipyard, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson promised to protect the future of the shipyard. Richardson told workers that, "If I am elected president, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard will always be open. I wont even let it on the BRAC list and that's a pledge. That's something I commit right here." Richardson said the shipyard should be kept open because "One is the great working relationship between management and labor and the great safety record this facility has. Secondly, the naval shipyard is very important to our national security."
