Obama Merges New Media With Traditional Grassroots Campaign

Barack Obama's presidential campaign is looking to run a new type of campaign. Not just one based on "hope," but a campaign that is quickly merging social network sites with traditional grassroots activism. In a press release about their upcoming canvass, the Obama team said:

"The canvass is a great example of how we’re converting online interest into work on the ground, and using interactive technology to engage more people in a traditional New Hampshire campaign.

A lot of our organizing takes place through our New Hampshire website (http://nh.barackobama.com) and My.BarackObama.com, the campaign’s social network site. These online tools allow supporters—many of whom have never been involved in campaigns before—to connect with each other and with us to begin the hard work of door-to-door, voter-to-voter, grassroots campaigning."
