Paul Wins Strafford GOP Straw Poll

Today, Texas Congressman Ron Paul won the Strafford County GOP straw poll 70% of the vote. At the GOP event, Paul gave a short speech on the role of the federal government and an array of other topics.

In the morning, Paul also walked the Londonderry Old Home Day parade.

My wife & I attended this event, which was billed as a local GOP picnic, yet more than anything it had the feel of a Ron Paul rally. He was constantly surrounded by a large group of supporters/admirers, and received nearly universal applause when he spoke. Although Mike Huckabee, Tom Tancredo, Jeb Bradley, John Cox, Dan Gilbert and others were there and spoke, no-one really paid them much attention. By contrast, Huckabee, e.g., stood off to the side for a half hour, mostly just with his entourage, greeting a few local dignitaries until it was his turn to speak.
The ground is stirring here in NH - an upset may be in the works for Ron Paul.

Bull, Ron Paul paid 250 supporters from outside of NH who were some of the rudest people to boo others and support Ron. That is who voted for him. Not critical thinking people from NH.
Huckabee was thoughtful and on target with his depth and breadth of the issues.
Ron Paul offends those of us who lost friends on 9/11. He does not represent the best of USA, Huckabee does.

Ok, that just isint true, Ron Paul would never pay any one to come into an event, he made people goin to the IOWA Straw Poll pay there own way, unlike Huck who bought all of there tickets and bus rides.

Why would he offend you, because he speaks directly from the 9/11 commision that states U.S forign Policy was the cause of 9/11?

Followup to RP in Strafford: I don't have dog in this fight yet, but I know the difference between "rent-a-kids" and devoted or very interested potential supporters. The attention RP got at this event was more like the latter.

Huckabee did not rent buses or pay for very many tickets at the Ames Straw Poll. The Ron Paul people are a bunch of dirty hippies (literally, they smell bad). They made ruse remarks when Rudy's surrogate was speaking about 9/11 (more of that inside job crap the Ron Paul-tards are blabbing about). I wish the GOP would kick this idiot out of the debates, him being there is offensive to the families that lost loved ones on 9/11!

You are a fool.

His supporters are in no way connected to his acutal campaign, if they dont agree- they have a right to voice that opinion.

What about the folks in Iowa that booed Paul at the Iowa morning debate?

Still why does quoteing directly from the 9/11 commission offend you. And BTW, less then 1% of all Ron Paul supporters are 9/11 truth seekers, so thank you.

Ron Paul is an embarrassment to the Republican party, take your 9/11 inside job crap elsewhere! The Ron Paul-tards are offensive!

I'm a New Hampshire voter and I support Ron Paul. Don't listen to the nay sayers. He is for real!

This is typical jealousy from the neocons.

Ron Paul's supporters were there because they WANTED TO BE. PERIOD.

Ron Paul buys and is bought by NO ONE.
That's what we love about him.

People who insult this honorable, honest and impeccable man are the TARDS and OFFENSIVE.

Wow, that's a rather vitriolic exchange... As one of the folks doing volunteer grassroots stuff for Paul in NH, I can vouch for the fact that all of those folks paid for their own tickets. The event was publicized (rather mildly, actually) on Meetup, and far more people showed up than I expected. As to the issue of rudeness, I know that I and others purposefully hung around in the tent listening to other candidates precisely to avoid discourtesy.

And, by the way, it's fairly laughable to view Paul's gun-owning, tax-hating, Constitution-loving supporters as "dirty hippies." I'd love to hear a public explanation as to which of those positions is *not* Republican.

Well, the "Constitution-loving" part certainly isn't Republican. Any more. You could've added "small-government, competent, fiscally responsible and honest" to the description of Paulites without coming close to any current Republican traits.

The very small number of 9/11-inside-job folks supporting Paul are an intellectual embarrassment to his campaign, granted -- but the large number of other candidates' supporters who refuse to admit that George W. Bush has been an catastrophe, and one of the very worst presidents in American history, should rightfully be a far greater intellectual and moral embarrassment to their campaigns. Falsely suspecting dubious conspiracies is the mark of the gullible and unsophisticated. Fiercely insisting on the greatness of a cherished cultural hero in the face of a world of evidence that he is morally corrupt and a shambling disaster is despicable, is un-American, is worshiping a false idol, is moral cowardice.
