Bob Smith Endorses Hunter

Former New Hampshire Senator Bob Smith has endorsed Duncan Hunter for president.

In a letter that appears on a Hunter website, Smith says "There will never be another Ronald Reagan but fellow Californian Duncan Hunter can pick up the Reagan torch and light the way for America to come back from the dangers we now face."

"Duncan Hunter has proven that he can lead. He has been tested. If given the chance as President, he will inspire people, young and old, to rally to our nation in this time of need," Smith added.

Senator Smith was defeated by Senator John Sununu in a 2002 Republican primary.

I have a great deal of respect for Duncan Hunter, but I don't think he has much of a chance, nor would he e my first choice if he did.

He would however be a close second behind Fred Thompson.

Fred Thompson has the rhetoric, record, and ability to articulate that conservatives have been looking for.

And now that his campaign is showing real signs of life in Iowa, I'm hoping that he will start getting the consideration that we Fred heads have been yelling for.

Hunter hasn't been in the state for over 90 days now. He clearly doesn't want it bad enough. Fred Thompson won't be back in the state again before the primary, so I'm not sure he's really committed here, either.

But I agree that both are great on the issues. Hunter was the "missed opportunity" candidate in this race.
