In 2000, Joe McQuaid, publisher of The Union Leader, called John McCain "The most liberal guy on the Republican side."
Then in a September 2006 article, McQuaid said, “in the midst of the most difficult and challenging war we have ever faced, can the nation afford a President McCain?" He went on to add “New Hampshire citizens must question why they should support him [McCain] for President.”
In the past, McQuaid has also heaped praise on the Arizona Senator. In July 2007, McQuaid said, "Meanwhile, Sen. McCain's campaign has had a rough time of it of late. But anyone who knows his story knows there is no quit in this man. New Hampshire is honored to have him here."

The Union Leader is supposed to be the stalwart of conservatism and libertarian ideals. Yet, they choose not to throw their limited weight behind the only candidate who has consistently defended those ideals?
If the Union Leader had any integrity whatsoever, the would have ignored the pundits and endorsed Ron Paul. Instead, they embrace a continuance of a perpetual war mentality in the Republican party. It is truly depressing to see that, even in New Hampshire, conservatism has lost it's way.
They won't be endorsing any Libertarian extremist lunatics (thank God for that) but they sure picked a fine liberal to endorse, and it's perplexing. Aside from the citations you made here, there's the following:
